Insurance and Billing

Our medical practice and endoscopy center participate with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Shield, Most HMO’s, PPO’s as well as most major insurance plans. Please check with your insurance carrier for referral, deductible, copay and co-insurance requirements prior to your office or procedural appointment. Our billing staff is ready to assist you with any questions or coding information you may need prior to calling your insurance carrier regarding coverage for an upcoming procedure.

Your insurance coverage is an agreement between you and your insurance company. Financial responsibility rests with the patient for deductibles, co-insurance and non-covered services. Forms of payment accepted are cash, check and credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express). You may also use our secure bill pay link here to process your credit card payment. Self pay patients are welcome at our practice. Payment arrangements are available upon request.

You may receive a separate bill for pathology, labs, anesthesia and x-rays. When procedures are performed, a biopsy specimen may be sent to a lab to be analyzed. The fee for this is a separate charge from our procedural services. Your payment for this lab service should be sent directly to the lab.

Procedural claims to your insurance carrier will include both a facility fee from the surgery center or hospital where your services were performed and a professional fee from Gastrointestinal Specialists or GIS Services 2, LLC. The professional fee is the doctors fee for performing your procedure. The facility fee is the surgery center or hospital fee which includes equipment, supplies and technical personnel.

While our practice participates with most health plans we may not be participating with all plans offered by a particular carrier. Please check with your insurance carrier to verify that your provider is participating with your plan. If your plan requires a referral, please obtain a referral from your primary care provider prior to your appointment.

The Cost of Your Procedure

Because you are responsible for costs for covered healthcare services until you reach your deductible, you should comparison shop if you elect to have a nonemergency procedure.

You can use tools like Healthcare Bluebook and the Medicare Procedure Price Lookup (for Medicare patients).  Many health insurance websites also provide information on where to find in-network services.
